ABC SF Local News reported that at least 1 out of 10 SF Muni riders doesn't pay to ride the buses. The city of SF estimates that it loses approx. $19 million a year to non-paying riders. In a recent sting operation - 42% had No Valid Proof of Paymt; 26% were using Expired, Altered or Illegal Receipts, 7% had improper Youth or Senior Discounts (that seems like way more than 10% of the people to me)!
The city of SF is already $45 million in debt, at just 3 months into the new Fiscal Year.
